Welcome to the University of West Florida and the General Studies program. You will be taking General Studies courses and your major prerequisites throughout your freshman and sophomore years. General Studies is designed to provide you with a high quality program of study that will help you become a broadly educated person and provide you with the knowledge and skill set you need to succeed in your major, professional and personal life. Specific skills woven into the curriculum fall into four broad areas: Critical Thinking, Communication, Values/Integrity and Project Management.
This website is designed to help you understand the meaning behind the General Studies curriculum and the academic requirements of the program. General Studies includes coursework in composition, mathematics, social sciences, humanities and sciences. The courses in the program cover a wide variety of disciplines. It is my hope, and that of the faculty, that you will use this time to explore new ideas and concepts, and broaden your horizons. I believe you will enjoy your academic journey through your first two years.
