Florida-Japan Institute Tuition Exemption Programs

First Time Application

Out-of-State Tuition Exemption Program for Japanese Students Enrolled in Florida Public Institutions of Higher Education.

The first time application is for students applying for the first time; students who are transferring to a different Florida public university, college or community college who have received an exemption within the two previous semesters; and students who had received the tuition exemption but have not received it in the past two semesters.

I am requesting a tuition exemption for the number of hours indicated below (maximum of 12 undergraduate, 9 graduate or graduate/undergraduate mix):

**Priority is given to students with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
Proof of Admission to the institution where tuition exemption will be used - send in one of the following:
  • Acceptance letter
  • Enrollment Certification
  • Statement from an advisor or a faculty member certifying that you have been admitted to the institution
Statement of Purpose - Respond to the following questions on a single sheet of paper
  • How will the exemption credits help you in pursuing your educational and career goals?
  • How will your studying in Florida contribute to the linkage between Florida and Japan?

Transcript - Send in an official most recent transcript.

Proof of Japanese citizenship and visa status - Send in a copy of your Japanese passport and your visa

Florida Statute 288.8175 authorized the exemption of out-of-state fees provided that the students receiving the exemption shall return to their home country for a period of time equal to the exemption period at the end of their study in the U.S. If granted, this student agrees to abide by this condition.
