Friday, April 4th Profiles in Leadership - Yellowstone: The Delicate Balance Lewis began her duties as the superintendent of Yellowstone National Park in 2002. She manages more than 2.2 million acres, a staff of 400 and has an annual base budget of more than $30 million. Before coming to Yellowstone, she was superintendent at Glacier National Park. She began her National Park Service career as a seasonal park ranger in 1978 at Gulf Islands National Seashore. Lewis earned her bachelor's degree (Magna Cum Laude) in American History, in 1978 from UWF. She has received numerous awards recently being named as a 2007 National Women's History Month Honoree, other awards include; the Secretary's Bronze Executive Leadership Award in March 2004, the National Park Service Meritorious Service Award in September 2003. The "Profiles in Leadership Series" is designed to introduce prominent leaders to the UWF and Northwest Florida communities; enrich the teaching and learning environment at UWF; and increase awareness of the university's unique educational environment among leaders from within and outside the UWF community. The series will continue as UWF President John Cavanaugh selects additional individuals to participate in the program as Profiles in Leadership Fellows. Each fellow will have a distinguished record of leadership and service that exemplifies the university's mission and personifies its values. Fellows will spend from one to three days at UWF interacting with the campus and Northwest Florida communities.
