Writing Boot Camp Flyer

Description:

• 2-week camp, 4-hours a day for high school students (9th-12th)
• Work with UWF Writing Lab mentor (small groups) from intervention to invention of final product
• Appropriate for college-bound students
• During the 1st week receive guided practice in language skills
  • grammar

  • punctuation
  • capitalization
  • word use
  • other important language skills
• During the 2nd week construct a documented essay
  • brainstorming

What is this program designed to do for you?

Writing Boot Camp is designed to help and encourage high school students to understand the nature of writing – that writing is not merely communication of ideas, but is, in addition, a process:  a way of generating ideas; of talking on paper; of inventing, writing, revising, proofreading, and editing; of learning, and clarifying thinking. 

What will you gain?

Working with a trained writing mentor will help students understand that while writing itself is often a solitary act, the process should include seeking a reader, another “pair of eyes,” for feedback.  The outcome of this two-week program will be that participants will also learn the value and usefulness of writing well – personally and, especially, academically.
