Writing Boot Camp is designed to help and encourage high school students to understand the nature of writing – that writing is not merely communication of ideas, but is, in addition, a process: a way of generating ideas; of talking on paper; of inventing, writing, revising, proofreading, and editing; of learning, and clarifying thinking.
Working with a trained writing mentor will help students understand that while writing itself is often a solitary act, the process should include seeking a reader, another “pair of eyes,” for feedback. The outcome of this one-week program will be that participants will also learn the value and usefulness of writing well – personally and, especially, academically.
