Student Organization Information
Emerald Coast Student Psychological Association (ECSPA)
Purpose
To advance the understanding of human behavior, stimulate expansion
of the science of psychology, and encourage application of this knowledge
to a common purpose that benefits all disciplines.
The design of this Emerald Coast student organization has been tailored
to meet the needs of the many non-traditional, as well as traditional
students, attending UWF’s Emerald Coast Campuses. ECSPA is open
to all psychology students and because psychology overlaps a variety
of disciplines, membership includes students of all majors. Additionally,
we serve students whose interests in psychology are purely extra-curricular.
ECSPA offers many community and academic advancement opportunities.
Members and officers in this organization are involved with activity
planning as well as networking with University and community leaders.
These unique interactions give students exposure to processes and
contacts further enhancing their scholarly experiences at UWF.
ECSPA is committed to bridging the gap between the community and the
students by making available current psychology-related news and events,
and by sponsoring events that involve students, university professors,
and local community leaders. ECSPA’s activities include intellectually
stimulating conversations with University professors and community
members during meetings and in lectures, the annually sponsored Parent
University, charitable events, and other social activities.
Please contact the ECSPA officers at ecspa@uwf.edu
or the Faculty Advisor, Joy Damen Makela at jdmakela@uwf.edu
for more information.

Lisa Ince
Psyhcology
My name is Lisa Anne Ince and I am a graduate of UWF. Not only was
I a nontraditional student, but I was a single parent in my 30’s.
I am proud to say that I successfully earned my BA in Psychology in
2002. The UWF Fort Walton Beach campus offered me flexible course
schedules that I could work around job and family commitments.
Upon completion of my BA, I began working on my MA in Counseling
Psychology. I became employed part time as a psychometrist, administering
psychological tests under the supervision of a Neuropsychologist.
Additionally, I completed my counseling internship at Catholic Charities.
Both of these experiences were extremely rewarding and went hand-in-hand
with the skills I developed during my coursework.
As I was finishing my MA, I accepted a position as an Adult Protective
Investigator with the State of Florida, where I am still employed.
I am very pleased with the education I received at UWF. The guidance
I received from my instructors and the faculty while completing my
coursework and internship requirements was absolutely invaluable to
my success.
