PRE-KINDERGARTEN/PRIMARY EDUCATION/ESOL, B.A.
The University of West Florida (UWF)PreK/Primary Education Program trains teachers to teach students in PreK through grade 3 in Florida. Students graduating from this program are eligible to receive teacher certification by the Florida Department of Education to teach in classrooms for PreK through grade three and in PreK disabilities classrooms.
While there is some fluctuation in the numbers of teachers needed in early childhood classrooms, it is clear that the need in school-aged classrooms remains fairly constant and with the implementation of voluntary universal prekindergarten for all children, the need in that area is growing. To meet this need, the PreK Primary Education program at UWF is designed to provide specialized training in order to implement best practices in education for students in early childhood classrooms. The program is organized to allow students to satisfy the most recent Prekindergarten/Primary PK-3 Education Competencies and Skills promulgated by the Florida Department of Education. Graduates of the program are expected to be empowered persons and professionals, making a difference in the schools and learning communities in which they work and live.
