The MED in Reading is an NCATE and Florida DOE approved program that is designed for certified teachers who are interested in advanced preparation in literacy education. The program prepares educators with the skills and competencies to plan and implement outstanding instructional programs at the classroom, school and district level. The clinical experiences in the program also prepare graduates to assess the instructional needs of students and to plan appropriate instruction. The ultimate goal of the MED in Reading program is to positively impact the literacy achievement of students in Northwest Florida by promoting excellence in teachers and administrators. Those who complete the 36 credit hour program are eligible for Florida certification in reading. In addition to quality coursework the UWF MED in Reading program offers teachers a variety of professional development opportunities such as conferences and symposia (link).
