• MOVE - Dr. Stacie Whinnery and Dr. Keith Whinnery

GOAL: to provide consultation and professional development to Special Education administrators and practitioners (e.g., teachers, physical/occupational/speech therapists, and paraprofessionals) who use the MOVE program related to the use of mobility to increase student engagement and access to the general curriculum.

Grants

• Statewide Para-to-Teacher Tuition Support Program for ESE- Dr. Robert Markowitz

The statewide Para-to-Teacher Support Program targets the educational needs of Florida's K12 special needs children and youth by providing tuition and other support to Paraprofessionals throughout the state seeking their Bachelor's degrees in Exceptional Student Education (http://www.florida-ese.org/tuitionsupport/). UWF has been responsible for the statewide implementation of this program for the past 4 years. During the 2011-2012 grant year 21 Paraprofessionals received their Bachelor's degrees. For the 2012-2013 we will provide support for 38 continuing and new Paraprofessionals.

• Technical Assistance and Training System (TATS) - Dr. Robert Markowitz

The Technical Assistance and Training System (TATS) is in its ninth year of providing support through technical assistance and training for programs which serve prekindergarten (Pre-K) children with disabilities. This support promotes high quality programs leading to positive outcomes for children and their families. Recipients of services in the ten Northwest Florida counties are coordinators for programs serving Pre-K children with disabilities in school districts, Head Start, Early Learning Coalitions, Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK), Early Steps and community child care programs.

• Mathematics Tutoring Program - Dr. Giang-Nguyen Nguyen

The goal of the Mathematics Tutoring Program is to provide assistance with mathematics currently taught in school and to remediate students with any incomplete formal learning. This program also provides pre-service teachers with an early experience to working with students in the area of mathematics. Each semester, we have approximately 6 UWF pre-service teachers helping Dr. Giang-Nguyen Nguyen with this.

• Expanding the Teacher Technology Resource Center - Dr. Christine Ogilvie

The Teacher Technology Resource Center (TTRC) is a lending library and training program for faculty, staff, and students designed to increase and enhance the use of technology in the classroom. Housed in the Pickens Suite, the TTRC serves the UWF educational community through a continuous flurry of equipment being checked out, used for educational purposes, and returned - for others to use.

Partnerships

• Partnership for Professional Innovation/Escambia County - Dr. Karen Evans

Mission: To develop a highly effective collaborative educational program that will provide high quality teacher training experiences and services to UWF students and ECSD students, parents, and teachers. This purpose of this program is to identify, develop, implement and replicate innovative and empirically based educational practices.

The project's overall goals include:

1. Identification of schools and UWF SoE collaborative project needs

2. Developing, establishing and evaluating collaborative projects that meet the project needs

3. Establishing community and parent outreach programs appropriate to project needs

4. Establish University of West Florida SoE pre and in-service teacher training opportunities appropriate to project needs

5. Assist the site schools in meeting identified school improvement goals and needs.
