SoE graduates make a difference!
The Department of Teacher Education and Educational Leadership is a member of the UWF Professional Education Unit. The Unit includes educator preparation programs from the College of Professional Studies (Department of Teacher Education and Educational Leadership, Department of Health, Leisure, and Exercise Science, and TeacherReady®), and the College of Arts and Sciences (Department of Music).
Professional Education Unit Accreditation
The Professional Education Unit at the University of West Florida is currently accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). This accreditation covers initial teacher preparation programs (traditional and alternative) and advanced educator preparation programs at the Pensacola and online campuses. However, the accreditation does not include individual education courses that the institution offers to P-12 educators for professional development, relicensure, or other purposes.
July 1, 2013 was the day of the de facto consolidation of NCATE and the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC), making the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) the new, sole specialized accreditor for educator preparation. In preparation to UWF's upcoming accreditation visit in 2017 the Professional Education Unit is currently aligning the educator preparation programs to the new CAEP standards of educator preparation.
