Teachers Teaching Teachers (3T) is a collaborative effort between the University of West Florida School of Education (SoE) and the Santa Rosa County School District (SRCSD) in Florida to train teachers in a unique and practical manner. In 3T, SRCSD teachers and SoE faculty jointly implement a teacher training program that provides an unprecedented level of practical experience. 3T candidates are fully immersed into the daily life of a SRC school that helps to transition them more easily into the role of a professional teacher.
Program Options3T candidates are divided into two tracks: Middle/Secondary (Graduate) or Elementary Education/Exceptional Student Education (Undergraduate). 3T Middle/Secondary (Graduate) ProgramThe Middle/Secondary program is designed for non-education majors who want to become certified to teach in middle or secondary schools in Florida and complete their certification training in Santa Rosa County. Students also have the option of pursuing the Exceptional Student Education, M.A. Candidates who successfully complete the 3T program can earn up to 24 graduate semester hours which can be applied to the Exceptional Student Education, M.A., and will qualify for Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) teacher certifications in a content area and in Exceptional Student Education. 3T candidates in the Middle/Secondary program participate in SoE's fast track program (an approved FLDOE Professional Training Option-PTO). Completers of the 3T Middle/Secondary Program meet the necessary requirements to apply for a Florida Temporary Certificate. (A Temporary Certificate enables educators to complete the Professional Certificate requirements while teaching full time.) 3T candidates have the advantage of working with SRCSD throughout the program to meet district requirements and, after successfully completing 3T, are in a position to move more quickly from a Temporary to a Professional Certificate. Middle/Secondary 3T candidates complete the 3T program in four semesters. Once prospective candidates are screened during the spring semester and selected for program admission, 3T Middle/Secondary students are placed into cohort groups that begin with the summer semester and end the following summer semester. 3T candidates enroll in professional education courses summer semester and complete their special methods course(s) during the fall semester. Three 1-hour practica are taken fall term, and student teaching is completed in the spring after candidates have completed all other coursework and passed the necessary Florida Teacher Certification Exams. Middle/Secondary candidates apply for practica and student teaching on the 3T application form. The field experiences coincide with the SRC academic year rather than the UWF academic year. For more information on SRCSD start and end dates, please visit the Santa Rosa County School District website. Middle/Secondary program candidates may be required to complete additional coursework in their concentration area to meet FLDOE subject-area requirements. Up to 24 graduate semester hours of 3T coursework can be applied to the Exceptional Student Education, M.A. 3T Middle/Secondary completers pursuing master's degree in Exceptional Student Education will need to complete a minimum of 12 additional graduate semester hours to fulfill the master's degree requirements. (Note: a maximum of 12 semester hours of coursework earned in a non-degree status may be applied to a UWF graduate degree program; therefore, students interested in pursuing the master's degree program should apply as degree seeking.) 3T Middle/Secondary Program Teaching Concentration Areas:There are multiple subject areas for 3T Middle/Secondary candidates to choose from: English, Mathematics, Science, Social Sciences, Art, Music, and Physical Education. All 3T candidates (regardless of program track) are required to pass the Exceptional Student Education Florida Teacher Certification Exam. In addition to meeting 3T requirements, students will need to meet FLDOE certification requirements for their subject area(s). Certification Exams3T candidates in the Middle/Secondary Program are required to pass four FLDOE certification exams prior to student teaching: General Knowledge, Subject Area, Exceptional Student Education and Professional Education. 3T Middle/Secondary Courses

Elementary/Exceptional Student Education (Undergraduate) ProgramThe Elementary/Exceptional Student Education 3T Program is designed for UWF "dual" education majors who want to become certified to teach in Florida and complete their certification training in Santa Rosa County. 3T candidates work with SRC throughout their program and SRC endeavors to hire a number of 3T graduates (though completion of 3T does not guarantee instructional placement). Students complete the 3T Elementary/ESE Program in six semesters (2 years). Once they are screened and selected (early spring), 3T students are placed into cohort groups that begin each summer semester. 3T Elementary/ESE majors complete two field experiences (6 semester hours) and student teaching (10 semester hours). 3T fieldwork is completed at two SRC schools and each of the three experiences coincides with the SRC academic year, not the UWF academic year. (For more information on SRC start and end dates, please visit the Santa Rosa County (Florida) School District website. After meeting all program requirements, passing the necessary certification exams, and passing the required background screenings, 3T Elementary/ESE graduates will meet the necessary requirements for a Professional Certificate in Elementary and Exceptional Student Education as well as the FLDOE criteria for Reading and ESOL endorsements. Elementary/Exceptional Student Education Certification Exams3T undergraduate dual education majors are required to pass four FLDOE certification exams prior to student teaching: General Knowledge, Elementary Education, Exceptional Student Education and Professional Education. 3T Elementary/Exceptional Student Education CoursesNote: EDF 1005 (program prerequisite) should be taken Term C of previous spring semester.
