This program prepares students for a career in construction management. Construction professionals are in heavy demand in any of several construction-related careers. Students will learn highly transferable skills, such as project management, estimating, scheduling, construction finance and contract administration. These skills provide students with the necessary foundation and technical expertise to adapt to a continually evolving workforce.
Students will study a variety of construction methods and techniques, planning and layout, site preparation, building materials, building codes, and construction safety. Students will also learn about contracting, scheduling and business management. The program contributes two years of equivalent experience toward the residential or general contractor's exam.
The UWF Building Construction program is growing. The program has recently renovated Building 70 on the Pensacola campus. Classrooms are dedicated for use by the Building Construction program, and include state-of-the-art, audio-visual and teleconferencing equipment. The program is also working on the renovation of the adjacent Building 80, which will host the UWF C.O.R.E. Construction Lab.
The program is particularly focused on teaching, providing a good mix of theoretical knowledge, hands-on experience, and appropriate technology. Students will acquire the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to meet future professional challenges in the construction industry. Coursework provides students with applied learning and field experiences in face-to-face and online learning environments. Students are also exposed to construction professionals and guest lecturers in the Professor of the Day program.
