Mica Harrell, MA., CHES.
Associate Director, Health Promotion Services
I completed my Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology at the University of West Florida in 2002. As part of my graduate program, I completed my internship at UWF’s Counseling Center. It was a wonderful experience and cemented my desire to continue working with the college population. Although I thoroughly enjoyed counseling, my passion for outreach services became clear after I had the opportunity to provide outreach programs for students on campus. It was because of those experiences that my focus shifted from the treatment side of things to the field of outreach and prevention.
After graduating with my Master’s degree, I worked in the field of sexual violence specifically dealing with issues of prevention and risk reduction for sexual assault, sexual harassment, and intimate partner violence. Currently, at the University of West Florida, I manage the coordination of outreach services in the areas of sexual violence prevention, sexual health promotion, HIV/STI prevention, alcohol misuse and abuse prevention, healthy relationship promotion, and overall wellness promotion. Another wonderful aspect of my job includes directing the Peer Educator group on campus. It is amazing to work with motivated, creative students who are also passionate about making a difference and impacting their peers in positive ways. I feel very fortunate to be able to do what I love and truly enjoy the added bonus I get from working on a gorgeous campus filled with wonderful college students!
