Trying out LaTeX
It might be a good idea to try out LaTeX before going through the process of installing it. Overleaf and ShareLaTeX are two good resources. Overleaf is convenient because you can use your Google login.
How to learn more about LaTeX
WikiBooks has a fantastic book free for use. You can learn to do most things by taking a look at it.
There are two steps to installing LaTeX:
- Installing the "backend"
- Installing an editor
Note that the "backend" is usually a big download and can be time consuming.
To install LaTeX in Windows you will need to download MiKTeX.
To install LaTeX in Windows you will need to download MacTeX.
Installing LaTeX in linux is can be done using the package manager or manually at the command line. The package necessary to install LaTeX is called texlive.
Command line instructions:
- Debian: apt-get install texlive
- Redhat: yum install texlive
