Accountability

Translatability (creating habits and processes students may use in college and in their postgraduate lives and careers)

Main Issues

• Ensure that all members of a student team participate fully.
• Appropriately reward members for their contributions to teamwork.
• Fairly hold all members responsible for the group product.

Recommendations

• Establish criteria for both individual and team performance, preferably with student input about what the criteria are.
• Establish a process for regular, periodic reporting and evaluating throughout the course of the project. Among the assessment measures we have found useful are individual work logs, peer evaluations, leader reports, and instructor supervision.
• Require that all team members review and approve the team product and hold everyone on the team responsible for the quality and integrity of that product.
• Create opportunities for team interaction through a variety of interfaces such as online discussion boards, Elluminate, and other interfaces.
