Minors in Computer Science

These minors provide the opportunity for students majoring in other areas to take a limited number of computer science or computer information systems courses to complement their majors. Fundamentals of programming experience utilizing procedural and object-oriented paradigms prepare students in these minors for software development on a variety of computing platforms. CS, CIS, SE, and Cybersecurity majors may not earn these minors.

Program Description

The Computer Information Systems Minor provides students with basic knowledge of the software aspects of computer systems. Students will utilize various software packages and gain programming, database and web experience that facilitate managing information in net-centric business environments. CS, CIS, SE, and Cybersecurity majors may not earn this minor. Students must complete the required courses with a grade of "C-" or higher.

Computer Science

Certificate

Cybersecurity Certificate

Focused on networking and security, the Computer Science Certificate in Cybersecurity prepares professionals to become Cybersecurity Specialists. In this Certificate students develop technical and problem-solving skills to help organizations defend their network systems.

With a growing government and industry need to protect network assets, this Certificate provides the needed background for professionals with programming background to advance their technical skills and be competitive in today's Cybersecurity industry.

Please read the following information carefully - university policy concerning certificates has changed.

Students interested in pursuing the Cybersecurity Certificate must fill out the Declaration of Certificate Form.  This form must be signed by a Computer Science advisor and turned into the Registrar's office. 

Then you will apply online for your Completion of Certificate using the same instructions as applying for graduation online. If you have any issues with this email  graduation@uwf.edu.

All courses must have been completed within 5 years of receipt of application with a “C-" or higher.

Completion of the certificate will be noted on the official transcript at the end of the semester.

Cybersecurity majors may not earn this certificate.
