
The University of West Florida is in partnership with the US Navy to deliver an Arabic Language and Culture Certificate program through the Academic Technology Center, Continuing Education and the English and Foreign Languages Department to deployed service members worldwide using mobile devices. This very successful program has been in operation for the past three years. Although started with the US Navy, all branches of the military have participated in this program as well as civilians from UWF and around the world. For more information, contact Dr. Pam Northrup.
This web-based and mobile training was developed in partnership with the Center for Language, Regional Expertise and Culture at Corry Station, US Navy to provide cultural awareness training prior to service members going in country. COPS School of Education (SoE) in partnership with the School District of Escambia County provides interns for Lincoln Park Elementary School. SoE Juniors may apply for these competitive positions. This paid internship is a year-long experience providing students an opportunity to develop pedagogical skills and perfect their teaching techniques. Funding is provided by the School District of Escambia County Title 2 funds.
FavorHouse of NW Florida is an organization that provides safe shelter, counseling, food, information and referrals, as well as advocacy for victims of domestic violence. COPS faculty in the School of Justice Studies and Social Work are active supporters of the Favor House and members of the Board of Directors. Students also participate in internships and volunteer activities.
