The College of Professional Studies is a dynamic, student-oriented organization divided into three departments and two schools that offers programs at the Baccalaureate and Master's level, as well as the University's first and only Doctoral Program. Over 65% of all UWF graduate full-time students and 1/3 of the University's total student population is enrolled in the College of Professional Studies.
COPS Points of Excellence
- Our dean and faculty are part of the partnership/grant project with the National Flight Academy in developing curriculum for their new education program.
- The College of Professional Studies enrolls over 2,400 students in 12 baccalaureate specializations in a variety of areas, and more than 900 students in graduate programs at the masters, specialists, and doctoral levels.
- 55% of our programs and courses are available online. As a leader in distance learning, COPS is participating in Quality Matters for Online Learning.
- Dr. John Smykla, Professor of Criminal Justice, was recently named a UWF Distinguished Professor based on his long record of distinguished teaching and scholarship, including the recent publication of the 5th Edition of his corrections textbook called Corrections in the 21st Century with Frank Schmalleger.
- The BEST House, is a Demonstration House that will be used as an educational tool and resource for Northwest Florida, is scheduled to begin construction this fall semester. Read more about this project at http://uwf.edu/ect/besthouse.cfm
- Our MSA program has received the Best Buy Online award from GetEducated.com two years in a row.
- The Human Performance Technology program has recently won an International case study competition by the International Society for Performance & Instruction.
- Last year, a state-of-the-art Mock Trial Courtroom was opened on campus to serve as a place for the Mock Trial Team to practice and host intercollegiate competitions.
