Management and Supervisory Skills
Project Management Professional (PMP) Prep Course
Classroom Dates: Sept. 30 - Oct. 4, 2019
Schedule: Mon. - Wed., 8:00 a.m. - 6 p.m. and Thurs. - Fri., Online.
This course prepares participants to take the Project Management Professional exam while satisfying the 35-contact hours of project management education requirement for exam qualification. Participants also earn 36 Professional Development Units (PDUs) upon course completion. Tuition discounts available for employers who enroll 3 or more individuals from their organization.
Effectively crafted SMART Goals serve as a guide for organizations and individuals towards growth and enhanced performance. SMART stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-based. Goals set by keeping the SMART principles in the forefront of the development process allows for participants to effectively craft goals with clear objectives. The SMART goals workshop includes defining SMART goals, crafting new objectives, and improving existing objectives that are workplace ready. Included are active learning opportunities to practice writing SMART goals with a certified instructor. After the initial workshop, participants will work closely with the instructor to measure the progress of their previously created SMART goals including successes and hurdles since implementation.
Today’s workforce is multigenerational including Baby Boomers, Generation X, Millennials (Gen Y), and Centennials (Gen Z). Creating a workplace where all can thrive and work together is the goal and challenge of every leader. This workshop defines the generations, identifies what makes them unique and compares how they affect the workplace. Participants will differentiate between stereotypes and actual characteristics while examining how each generation assists the next in order to create a healthy strategy for increasing awareness, motivate the different generations and build a cohesive workplace.
Leadership Friday Series
Dates: Sept. 20, 2019 - April 17, 2020 at 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
The Leadership Friday Series presented by the University of West Florida allows employers to further develop members of their leadership team or begin developing those with strong leadership potential. The Leadership Friday Series features seven sessions. Each 3-hour session features workshops covering two main leadership topics. Workshops are facilitated by nationally recognized UWF faculty members Athena du Pré, Ph.D., and Jane Halonen, Ph.D. From time management practices to diversity and working well with others, sessions provide tactics to optimize desirable workplace outcomes. This series allows individuals across all industries with varying levels of experience to develop flexible, situational approaches that empower team members.
Registration is $1,500 per seat for the entire series. For each full price seat purchased, an additional seat can be purchased at a 25 percent discount. Purchased seats are yours to fill; send specific employees to the entire series or divide the sessions across different team members.
ADA Digital Documents Accessibility
In this workshop, participants will learn about the importance of ensuring accessibility accommodations. The participants will learn how to provide accommodations for various document content types including Requirements for Accessible Documents/Making Documents Accessible, Accessible Accommodations within Microsoft Word, Microsoft Powerpoint and PDF Documents, Using the Accessibility Checker and Accessibility Checker errors, warnings and tips, and Accessible Accommodations for PDF Documents and Microsoft.
Customer Service Training
The Customer Service Training Series provides a turn-key solution to deliver cutting-edge customer service training to staff. The curriculum ensures training on up-to-date customer service knowledge and skills for all participants. Curricular topics and learning outcomes include core customer service principles, customer awareness, and customer service fundamentals. Each workshop includes active learning activities, training, and role-playing in order to develop the necessary skills need for staff to deliver superior customer service to internal and external customers.
The curriculum is designed to meet the Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation (ADDIE) instructional design framework and will be used to ensure quality content.
Each workshop will be 8-12nn with 2 topics per workshop.
Effective Presentation Skills
Overcome your fear of public speaking and build your confidence by acquiring effective presentation skills. Whether presenting to small or large groups, this workshop equips participants with valuable tools including presenting in various venues, comparing presentation formats and determining the best choice for your audience, how to develop an engaging presentation style and tips for co-presenting.
Engineering Economics provides applications of economic decision making between alternatives encountered in engineering systems projects. The analysis will include methodologies of economics and finance in addition to engineering fundamentals. Topics for this 3 day workshop include Basics of Financial Decisions, Evaluation of Business and Engineering Projects, Analysis of Project Cash Flow: Cost Analysis.
Leading Productive Meetings
Meetings are a critical part of every organization, yet often fail to meet the expectations of attendees and the meeting leader. Up-to-the-minute research combined with high impact activities make this workshop an enjoyable experience as participants identify the elements of productive meetings. Participants will learn how to implement these elements into every meeting while providing an engaging atmosphere for all involved. Topics covered include developing objectives, designing meaningful agendas, enhancing the meeting environment and managing conflict.
Professional and Technical Writing instructs participants how to create technical documents and communications that are written in a clear and concise manner allowing for those at different levels of expertise the ability to read and interpret the documents and communications. Topics for this workshop include Overview of Professional and Technical Writing Principles, Essential Skills for Success in Technical Communication, Producing Technical, and Workplace Documents for All Audiences.
Culinary Team Building
Dates: Individually Scheduled Events
Immerse your team in a unique learning experience that will build creativity, enhance problem solving skills and strengthen group dynamics. Culinary Team Building is an active learning event for your team to learn more about one another through the experience of cooking a meal together. Under the guidance of a UWF expert in personality testing, participants will take the Myers Briggs Personality Indicator Assessment. Those results will be used to divide the group into teams that will bring their personalities into the rich experience of a busy kitchen in order to prepare a meal. Our professional chef will guide the teams through the cooking process to meet the mealtime deadline. Once the meal is prepared, the team can enjoy the fruits of their labor together while debriefing the experience and determining how the insights gained can relate to their everyday work.
Achieve clarity around your next event by recognizing how to create value and measure success through behavior change. Event Design is a proven process based on experience, experiments and expertise. Participating in an Event Design workshop will help you achieve a new level of detail in your event planning and ensure the outcomes of your events meet your goals. Based on the idea of recognizing needs and changing behavior, the Event Design Workshop empowers your team to design and deliver innovative events. The comprehensive step-by-step process leads your team to identify objectives, uncover new opportunities and innovatively deliver on expectations.
Working as a team using Microsoft 365 can be challenging if team members have different levels of skills. Participating in an instructor-led, face-to-face training will benefit team members at all levels as they identify ways to effectively improve work flow and processes. Goals for this training include acquiring basic skills used in daily work, streamlining processes so staff can work smarter, and identifying areas and uses for the software that will increase time management skills.
Unlock the Key to Success: Understand Your Personality with Myers Briggs
Dates: Individually Scheduled Events
The Myers Briggs Personality Indicator (MBTI) is the most widely used personality assessment in the world. This assessment helps individuals gain insight and about how their personality impacts decision making, work style and relationships with others. Workshop participants will learn about the different dimensions of personality and how to appreciate individual differences. This understanding can lead to greater productivity and communication while reducing conflict. The MBTI has proven effective for team building, relationship counseling, career development and leadership development. This course can be offered alone or is combined with the Culinary Team Building for a fun event to experience how different personalities work together to achieve the goal of creating a delicious meal.
Safety and Risk Management
Active Shooter Response Training
The Active Shooter Response Training will inform you how to recognize an active shooter situation and the best methods of surviving the incident. In partnership with UWF Police, local law enforcement and your organization’s risk management team, participants will review emergency evacuation procedures, notification systems, and how to manage the situation after and event.
Certificate in Safety Management ASSP
The Certificate in Safety Management from the American Society of Safety Professionals provides a forum where you will share challenges, craft solutions and develop the skills you need to successfully position safety at your organization. ASSP's Certificate in Safety Management coursework spans a wide variety of topics — ranging from leadership skills and ethics; to developing budgets and controlling workers’ compensation costs; to designing and adjusting safety systems and programs so they meet the needs of employees and businesses.
Risk Assessment Certificate ASSP
The American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) offers certificate programs designed so professionals can take a series of courses related to certain occupational safety and health (OSH) topics or concepts and then master those areas, and gain expertise. ASSP Risk Assessment training focuses on hazard identification, risk analysis and risk evaluation — helping you to proactively manage risk and improve outcomes.

Design Thinking Workshop
Date: November 1, 2019
The UWF Innovation Institute's Design Thinking Workshop teaches the basic principles of Design Thinking. From interviewing and empathy building to brainstorming, prototyping and testing, participants will have the chance to learn how to problem-solve through the Institute’s trademarked IDEA method.
