Beginning Chinese for Youth I

Dates: Jan. 14 - April 22, 2017 (no class 3/18)

This class is designed for the beginning student, age 5 and older, with no previous knowledge of Mandarin Chinese. A major goal in designing this class is to introduce students to Mandarin phonetic symbols and the kinds of basic sentence patterns necessary for the study of Mandarin.

Beginning Chinese for Youth II

Dates: Jan. 14 - April 22, 2017 (no class 3/18)

This class is designed for students, age 5 and older, with some previous knowledge of Mandarin Chinese. A major goal in designing this class is to continue introducing students to more kinds of sentence patterns and situational dialogues necessary for the study of Mandarin.

Play and Learn Japanese

Dates: Jan. 28 - March 11, 2017 

Play and Learn Japanese is for children who have no previous knowledge of Japanese. It is designed to help all children who are interested in Japanese language and culture learn through fun activities and play. This class aims to help children become familiarized with the sounds of the language and to promote cross-cultural awareness for young learners. Children are immersed in Japanese language while doing fun activities. They will practice simple words, phrases and expressions. Pre-writing and writing practices and activities are incorporated into the weekly lesson depending on child’s readiness, skill level and progress.

Beginning Japanese for Children

Dates: Jan. 28 - March 11, 2017 

Beginning Japanese for Children is open to children who can recognize and read 20 out of 46 basic hiragana and understand some basic Japanese words. This class is designed to help children master all hiragana and some katakana, build basic vocabulary, practice Japanese speaking skills and to provide a fun Japanese learning environment in a classroom setting. Writing practices and activities are incorporated into the weekly lesson depending on child’s current level and progress. Japanese culture is introduced and taught through presentations, media, books and hands-on activities.

Basic Japanese for Bilingual Children

Dates: Jan. 28 - March 11, 2017 

Basic Japanese for Bilingual Children is open to those children who can read and write hiragana fluently and most katakana and recognize some basic kanji. Children are immersed in Japanese language through presentations, media, books and hands-on activities. This class is designed to help improve children’s Japanese language skills and develop fluency. Japanese grade 1 to 3 level materials are used depending on child’s current level and progress. Cooperative learning strategies are used to promote class community while sharing their strengths and working together toward a goal regardless of their level of language proficiency.
