Leasha M. Barry, PhD, BCBA-D
Leasha M. Barry, PhD, BCBA-D is the Founder and Director of the Office of Applied Behavior Analysis and is a Professor of Education at the University of West Florida. The Office of ABA at UWF was one of the first programs in the country to be approved by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board. Dr. Barry has trained students seeking certification since 2001.
Dr. Barry holds a PhD in Special Education, Disability, and At Risk populations from the University of California at Santa Barbara as well as an MA in Educational Psychology. She has provided clinical behavioral consultation since 1994.
Dr. Barry conducts research, teaches, and participates in service activities that combine her interest in psychology, special education, and early intervention. Prior research focused on behavioral and cognitive behavioral interventions for post-traumatic stress disorder, developmental disabilities, learning disabilities, and other at-risk populations spanning areas of impact from neonatal intensive care to juvenile justice. In response to national healthcare reform and a shortage of qualified clinical providers, Dr. Barry's work recently shifted to quality implementation of distance clinical supervision, tele-health in behavioral medicine, and documenting the impact of technology in behavioral intervention.
Dr. Barry collaborated with community stakeholders to establish the Autism Center at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, FL. The Autism Center at Sacred Heart provides Applied Behavior Analysis services, differential diagnosis, and other services to children with Autism Spectrum Disorder along with support for their families. The Center also provides students of Applied Behavior Analysis at UWF a hands-on practicum experience while earning their required supervision hours for certification.
During her tenure at the University of West Florida, Dr. Barry has received recognition by the Board of Trustees for her contributions to the University. She has also been the recipient of awards from the Cambridge Center for Behavioral Studies and was named Autism Professional of the Year by Autism Pensacola.
