Junior University of West Florida students, class of Spring 2017, volunteered their time during Spring
Break to participate in the Associate Health Fair at Sacred Heart Hospital, Pensacola, FL. Over 200
people attended the event. The students:
The event was a success and the students learned that populations with increased health risks are not
always wearing patient gowns but often wear scrubs, a badge, and work for a major healthcare
institution. Health promotion and maintenance is a major focus of their education and with this
opportunity to serve at the associate health fair, their idea of community was broadened and challenged.
On August 8, 2015 UWF welcomed Dr. Randall Johnson as the new Chair of Nursing. Dr. Johnson received his BSN from Cedarville University, in Cedarville, OH and has been a licensed Registered Nurse since 1985. He holds an MSN from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA, with his degree as a Nurse Practitioner and Clinical Nurse Specialist, and 2007 he completed his Doctorate in Philosophy in Nursing at the University of Central Florida.
Dr. Johnson has held nursing positions in both clinical and manager roles. He entered academia in 1999 while teaching in an Associates of Science Degree program in Orlando, FL. In 2009 he accepted a teaching appointment in both undergraduate and graduate levels at Cedarville University in Cedarville, OH., and in 2014 was appointed the Assistant Dean and Director of Graduate Nursing programs.
