MLT to MLS Track

The Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Sciences is designed to prepare graduates as Medical Laboratory Scientists (MLS) who will be proficient in performing the full range of clinical laboratory tests in areas such as hematology, clinical chemistry, diagnostic microbiology, clinical immunology, molecular diagnostics, and blood bank.

The curriculum builds a strong foundation in biology, chemistry, human physiology and pathophysiology, education and management. This enables the graduate to assume diverse responsibilities in areas of analysis, quality control, clinical decision making, supervision and education.   It is the first step to achieving a leadership role.

The UWF program is accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (www.NAACLS.org) and is licensed by the Board of Clinical Laboratory Personnel in the state of Florida. Graduates of the program take the national board exam offered by the American Society for Clinical Pathology. The MLS (ASCP) credential is recognized as the industry standard nationally and internationally.
