Valaitis gained health care management and practice experience at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio, where she worked for 20 years. Valaitis received a bachelor’s degree in science from The Ohio State University, master's in business administration from Cleveland State University, and is currently working to complete a doctoral degree program
