Bob Hoyt MD FACP is a retired Navy Internal Medicine physician who became interested in Information Technology in 1999. As an early adopter of medical programs for the PDA he was heavily involved in the teaching and implementation of handheld technology. He was also an early proponent of the electronic medical record and voice recognition. He began teaching the Introduction to Medical Informatics Course at UWF in 2004. He is currently the Director of the University of West Florida Medical Informatics Program and Assistant Professor of Medicine and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. CAPT Hoyt is a frequent lecturer on Health Informatics and a member of multiple civilian informatics related groups. In addition, he is the author of numerous medical articles and the lead author of Health Informatics: Practical Guide for the Healthcare Professional, sixth edition (2014). Dr. Hoyt is married to Ann Yoshihashi MD FACE, a retired Navy endocrinologist and associate editor of the textbook.
