Health Promotion

An undergraduate degree in Health Promotion (HP) is designed for students who wish to pursue health careers in public or private health agencies.

An undergraduate degree in Health Promotion (HP) is designed to provide students with academic and practical training to help improve the health of individual and communities through promoting healthy behaviors, educating target populations, teaching behavior change, and applying environmental strategies.  The HP degree prepares students to attain credentialing as a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES).

These activities take place in a variety of settings:  schools, communities, health care facilities, government agencies, non-profit health agencies, businesses, and universities. Health educators are employed under a range of job titles such as health education specialist, health promotion specialist, health educator, patient educator, health navigator, health education teacher, trainer, public health/community health educator, community organizer, and health program manager or coordinator.

Professional certification through the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc. is available. Please click on the following link for more information on obtaining certification as a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES).
