Biography:

Hugo Reyes Duran was born and raised in the Canary Islands, Spain. He completed a BS in Travel Industry Management at the University of Hawaii Manoa, where he also was a professional swimmer, ranked among the fastest in the world in the 50 freestyle in 2004.

Mr. Reyes Duran has an MBA, and a Masters in Online Marketing, Mobile and Digital Business. He has over 10 years of industry experience, focused on management, in 5 diamond-rated and Leading Hotels of the World hotels and resorts. His professional experience includes renowned companies such as Starwood, Fairmont, and Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts. He also managed operations in the renowned Gran Hotel Bahia del Duque Resort in Spain and helped develop and opened the famous Castadiva Resort in Lago Di Como, Italy. Most recently, Mr. Reyes Duran was part of Melia Hotels International's Corporate, where he participated in the re-invention of the company, and in the design, development and supervision of the company's top premium hotel and resort brands (Gran Melia Hotels and Resorts, Melia Hotels and Resorts and Me by Melia), as Regional Brand and Guest Experience Manager. He directly oversaw over 20 luxury resorts and hotels.

Reyes Duran has also been an entrepreneur in the past. He founded an online marketing and social media monetization company, which was selected among the Top 20 Most Innovative companies in Spain. 

His expertise expands in the fields of Resort and Hotel Operations, Luxury Hotel Brand Design and Development, Guest Experience Management, and Hotel Openings, with applied online marketing and revenue management as topics of his interest. His personal interests gear towards Technology, Economics and Monetary Policy, Austrian Economics, Entrepreneurship, Innovation, Hotels and Resorts and the so called Shared or Access Economies, and how these directly affect and are re-inventing Hospitality and Services; a topic he intends to further research.

Reyes Duran is also the mind behind the Global Leadership Development Program (GLDP), GHTM's re-invented internship program. He teaches GDL 1 : Industry Foundations, GLD 2 : Cross-functional Training, and GLD 3 : Insights into Hospitality Management, courses related to this innovative and very engaging practicum program he has developed. 

His current quest and objective, is assisting in the creation of a Hospitality Management Program at GHTM, that will compete against the world's best hospitality programs. His approach to teahcing is based on field experience and real, problem-solving, project oriented, learning dynamics, rather than theory. He enjoys consulting, and he describes himself as a restless mind, always after self improvement, sharing knowledge and know-how, and traveling the world.
