[Zach] Flight Attendant for United Airlines
[GHTM] Who do you work for now and what is your current position?
[Zach] Same as above
[GHTM] How did you decide to do what you’re doing now and what helped you along the way?
[Zach] I love to travel and my mom was a flight attendant for 12 years with US Airways so I got to travel a lot as a child
[GHTM] What do you enjoy most about your current job?
[Zach] The people I’ve met from all over the world and the ability to travel and experience different countries and cultures. I’ve been to Australia, Singapore, Germany, Japan, Hawaii and most of the US
[GHTM] What was the most beneficial thing you gained from your experience as student of GHTM?
[Zach] The importance of good customer service
[GHTM] How did the GHTM program prepare you for your current position?
[Zach] It helped me see how you need to be professional at all times because you never know who may be watching you. You are representing a company or a brand and you need to be the best!
[GHTM] What are some challenges that you face every day?
[Zach] When you work in the airline industry you constantly have to deal with weather delays, mechanical delays, scheduling issues, irritated passengers and confined spaces so you really need to be flexible as well as professional, (never let them see you sweat!). You need to be empathetic to the passengers and try your best to accommodate their needs while maintaining your professionalism even though sometimes the passengers take their frustrations out on you, (service with a smile!)
[GHTM] Any memorable moments at GHTM?
[Zach] Being chosen to represent UWF and GHTM in New York at the Hotel symposium. And being able to go to San Antonio to the CMAA. I was also fortunate to be able to do my student internship in Ireland, which was an awesome experience!
[GHTM] What advice would you give to current and prospective GHTM students?
[Zach] It’s a great career, you can do a pretty much anything in the hospitality industry especially if you love people and adventure, in my case, the sky’s the limit!
