GHTM students develop an P2P business model for Wyndham Worldwide
Homes by Wyndham
Closing a semester of hard work as a team and following Mr. Reyes Duran's instruction and guidance as part of Industry Foundations; the first of the 3 Internship courses in the Global Leadership Development program, GHTM students Rachel Anderson, Jessica Barnes, Emily Baswell, Jayana Benavente, Sheila Deir, Brianna Duncan, Madyson Lang, Carmen Lopez-Cotto, Infiniti Marshall, Natilee Martensen, Courtney Price, Tristan Rehrig, Brittany Salter, Justina Suarez, Kyle Taylor-Doggett, Heidi Wassmann and Ashley Williamson presented 'Homes by Wyndham' to Wyndham Worldwide.
Students developed all the necessary aspects of the business proposal, including its branding, the product and the supporting services for what they explain as "A Wyndham hotel experience scattered throughout cities and unique locations" a part of their class project. A concept that would allow Wyndham to adapt part of their business model in order to take advantage of P2P platforms such as Airbnb and Homeaway and offer a unique guest experience never seen before in vacation rental. The goal was to work on a real business solution for our industry while developing skills like teamwork, prenseting, project management, critical thinking and others along the way -explains Mr. Reyes Duran; the course's instructor and project leader. "I developed this new approach to internships, to serve not only as a method for students to experience the real deal but to do so by working together in applicable and innovative ideas, and practice and test the materials, methods and theory learned in classes".
Once the team delivered, a smaller group formed by Rachel Anderson, Sheila Deir, Carmen Lopez-Cotto and Heidi Wassmann took on the hard task of delivering the business pitch deck to Wyndham senior executives Ryan Christopher and April Sarver, and UWF's senior officials Dr. O'keefe (Dean of the College of Business), Dr. Brunen (Interim Vice President), Dr. Roltsch (Assist. Vice President for Research & Director for Research and Sponsored Programs), Dr. Assante (Chair of Global Hospitality & Tourism Management), Dr. Clune (Interim Vice Provost), Melissa Brode (Assist. Dean of the College of Business & MBA Director) and Hugo Reyes Duran (Course Instructor and Project Lead) and taking on the questions asked by the audience.
"The presentation went extremely well and the outcome of this project opens up opportunities in the future, and we are all very satisfied and proud of our student's performance", explained Mr. Reyes Duran at the conclusion of the presentation.

The mega merger is cleared to take place
Its a GO! Marriott-Starwood $12.2 billion deal has been approved by the Chinese authorities; the last regulator in a long list of approvals required for this merger to take place. The company has announced as a result, that the deal could be finally closed this Friday. This deal creates the largest hotel chain in the world, with just over 1.1 million rooms, spread out over 30 brands worldwide.
Regulators from other countries around the world, including the US, the European Union, Saudi Arabia and Mexico, decided not to stand in the way of this mega merger, since it was first proposed back in November of 2015, while the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China, decided to put this merger through an antitrust process that has just come to an end.
