Dr. Andrew Denney

Biography:

Denney’s most recent work examines substance abuse and recidivism among serious juvenile offenders, the use of information communication technologies and its impact upon various qualities of one’s sexuality, and backgrounds and motivations of prison chaplains.

His peer-reviewed articles have been published in Criminal Justice Review, Journal of Qualitative Criminal Justice and Criminology, Justice Policy Journal, Deviant Behavior, and  the Journal of Criminal Justice Education, among others. He co-authored a chapter on HIV infection for a book on online sexual deviance, and he has written several articles for the Encyclopedia of Corrections, the Encyclopedia of Street Crime in America, and the Encyclopedia of Deviance. Denney’s research has examined police leadership, disciplinary infractions in prison, social support and structure for successful offender re-entry, and work stress among correctional staff.

Denney earned a Ph.D. in Justice Administration from the University of Louisville in 2015, the same year he began teaching at UWF. His dissertation examined sex offenses at Protestant churches.

Denney received a bachelor's degree in History, Sociology, and Criminology (Minor) at Western Kentucky University. He earned a master's degree and a doctorate degree in Justice Administration from the University of Louisville.
