Science, Social Studies and Museum Informal Education in a Learning Ecosystem

Emerge Faculty Fellows: Drs. Karen N. Evans and Jennifer Mesa

The Science, Social Studies and Museum Informal Education in a Learning Ecosystem, or S3.M.I.L.E. project, has two primary objectives.

  • First the UWF students will engage in a service learning project with Arcadia Mill to enhance the site’s educational opportunities for students from local elementary and middle schools.
  • Second, based upon their experiences at Arcadia Mill, the UWF students will engage in the research and publication of a journal article outlining the process for integrating various disciplines with informal Museum education.

Students will also submit a conference presentation proposal communicating their efforts. The students will participate in a learning community formed to design, evaluate and write about this informal learning experience. These learning communities will foster collaboration and engagement through the preparation, execution and reflection on the project.
