Event Programming for ARGO Adventure Kids Camp
The project involves 35 Sport Management students currently enrolled in SPM3104, Sport Facility and Event Management, for Summer 2013. The activity is a collaboration with the Argo Adventure Kids Camp (AAKC) a community program sponsored by the Recreation and Sports Services Department in the Division of Student Affairs.
The AAKC is a summer day camp for kids that operates for eight consecutive weeks in the summer. The camp serves children grades K–5 and provides them with recreational programs and activities. The project includes a hands–on special event programming experience for students in event planning and execution, which aligns with the course content.
Students will be divided into five groups of roughly six students per group. Over the course of five weeks, each group will plan and implement two special events. Each group will design an event for the younger population K–2 and the older population grades 3–5. Their peers will be responsible for assisting the lead groups with their events.
Students will work on implementing course content to manage their project. Their event planning will include finance and sponsorship, risk management, logistics, marketing and advertising, etc. All special events will be designed to fit into the camps weekly themes. Structured reflection activities accompany each portion of the learning process.
