This project is supported by the Florida Three Rivers Resource Conservation and Development Council and sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Florida Department of Environmental Protection, and Florida Department of Agricultural and Consumer Services. The project characterizes water quality of stormwater discharges from a commercial open-pond fish culture system in Escambia County. The aim is to evaluate the effectiveness of a grass filter strip in removing excess nutrients and sediments that may be present in the storm-induced discharge from the fish-culture pond. The results will be of importance in determining the applicability of grass filter strips in best management practices (BMPs) for reducing contaminant loads to water bodies.
