Dr. Kurt Wise is a public relations professor and oversees the master’s program capstone courses.
Wise is an accredited public relations counselor with 36 years of combined work experience in academe and public relations executive management positions.
As chair, Wise leads a department of 14 full-time faculty and 14 adjunct faculty. To prepare students for an integrated communications marketplace, the department gives undergraduate students greater flexibility in creating their own educational experience. Instead of following a mandatory set of courses, students are given considerable freedom to choose the classes that will best serve their future careers. Assisting students with this endeavor are faculty members with doctoral degrees and instructors with practical work experience in the field. This balance of experience provides students with the theoretical knowledge and practical how-to that will help them succeed.
Wise, who is on the editorial boards for the journals Public Relations Review and the Journal of Communication in Healthcare, has published numerous articles and book chapters on various aspects of health care public relations. In addition to his writing, he has presented at scholarly conferences, such as the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication and the International Communication Association.
Before coming to UWF in 2014, he held faculty positions at Florida International University, Quinnipiac University, DePaul University and Southern Methodist University. Wise held public relations executive management positions in the natural resources, gaming, political and medical device manufacturing fields.
