The Department of Art offers two baccalaureate programs, leading to either the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Art, or the Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) degree. An Art minor is also available.
University of West Florida student T.J. Grier recently won a Student Silver ADDY Award in Elements of Advertising: Still Photography category at the 2017 American Advertising Federation Fourth District American Advertising Awards in Miami.
The American Advertising Awards is the advertising industry’s largest and most representative competition that attracts more than 40,000 entries every year in local AAF Club, or Ad Club, competitions. Read more at uwf.edu/news.
The Department of Art hosted STEAM2017, a month-long program of lectures, workshops and talks with artists and scientists, colloquim and an art exhibition.
STEAM2017 explored how art adds to the disciplines of science, technology, engineering and math to examine issues related to the environment.
“By asking what art is, we create a natural bridge between humanities and science,” Thomas Asmuth, an assistant professor of digital media in the University of West Florida art department and one of the organizers of STEAM2017, said during opening remarks at the colloquium. “Artists and scientists come together to share exploratory visions.” Read more about the STEAM2017 Colloquim at the UWF Center for Resaerch and Economic Opportunity.
