Points of Excellence

• 450 Pre-health professional students, (68% have a GPA of 3.0 or greater), with 7 student organizations engaging in community service and networking toward professional school admission
• Marine Biology (MB) degree offers research that routinely results in student co-authorship on manuscripts and on presentations at professional meetings
• Pre-professional student support includes pipeline agreements with 17 health professional schools such as USF and FSU Colleges of Medicine and others
• Opportunities for MB students to enroll in field/research courses in the Dry Tortugas, the FL Keys, Costa Rica, Indonesia or onboard ships in the Gulf of Mexico
• Nine out of 11 students supported by the Biology Advisory Committee were accepted to professional schools in Spring 2011

Biology Program Review

"Biology is a campus leader in many respects: number of students taught and headcount of majors, number of research projects involving students, number of scholarly presentations and publications, number of grants applied for and funded. Biology as a unit commands a great deal of well-earned respect and admiration across the campus. The quality of the teaching and students in the programs is very high; the track record of placement of Biology students into jobs and/or graduate or professional post-baccalaureate programs is very strong."
