History

The University of West Florida Department of History seeks to provide a foundation for better understanding the world in which we live, to produce high quality scholarship that makes a significant contribution to the discipline and to serve community needs by providing a source for historical information and expertise crucial to preserving heritage, especially Northwest Florida.

Upcoming History Conferences

Attention all history majors! In the coming months, there will be several conferences held in the southeast region. Students should consider attending at least one of these conferences, especially since one is in Pensacola (Gulf South History and Humanities Conference). Attendance provides students with first-hand knowledge of what professional historians do, and how they share ideas and information within their profession. Please see the list of History Conferences 2013-2014.

Study Abroad in Rome - Summer 2015

Dr. Marie-Thérèse Champagne (History) and Dr. Kristina Kilgrove (Anthropology) visited Rome this summer to develop their program abroad for summer 2015, "UWF in Rome." They plan to bring 20 participants to the eternal city for two weeks in early June to experience up close its sights, sounds, and fabulous food, while learning about its ancient historical and archaeological past. Up to six credit hours may be earned. Two weeks of on-campus class will precede the May 29th departure for Rome. More information will be forthcoming this fall (2014). For preliminary information, contact Dr. Champagne (mchampagne@uwf.edu) or Dr. Killgrove (kkillgrove@uwf.edu).
