History

The University of West Florida Center on Aging was re-established in fall 2010. Initiated in the 1980’s within the State University System, UWF’s interdisciplinary COA was originally sponsored by the Department of Social Work, and subsequently the Department of Health, Exercise and Leisure Science. The Department of Psychology, along with assistance from faculty across the University and the Office of Sponsored Research, submitted a grant to the State University System Board of Governors in support of aging initiatives for Northwest Florida resulting in the reformation of the COA and the recruitment of a full-time director, and Pensacola native, Dr. Rodney Guttmann.
