In keeping with its mission to speed widespread adoption of environmentally friendly residential homebuilding and renovation technologies and methods, Evergreen Demonstration Home Corporation has partnered with UWF to assist with the BEST House initiative. Evergreen's approach to sustainability is to build, open, and operate demonstration homes designed to educate the public, builders, designers, trades people, and regulators. In particular, they focus on energy efficiency, sustainable technologies, and storm mitigation. In order to showcase the best and most current technologies and methods, they update their homes every 3 to 5 years.
Mr. Philip Russell, the BEST House builder, is owner and operator of Russell Home Builders and president of Energy Smart Corporation, a company that pursues ongoing promotion of energy-efficient designs, techniques, and materials in the residential building industry. Mr. Russell is a nationally known builder of innovative residential structures and is the recipient of numerous national awards for energy-efficient construction. He also authored the book Energy-Smart Building. Russell and The Evans Group have a long-standing history of collaboration on architecturally pleasing and energy-efficient homes.
Spencer Maxwell Bullock Architects are the Architects of Record for the BEST House project, managing the design development, construction documents, and the construction administration. Spencer Maxwell Bullock (SMB) is an Architectural and Planning firm located in downtown Pensacola, Florida. Founded in 1989, SMB provides professional services in architecture, planning, urban design, sustainable design, and construction. Their expertise lies in a variety of project types including commercial office, hospitality, retail, mixed-use, land planning, and single- and multi-family residential projects. In addition to new construction, this work has also involved renovations, additions, and rehab/re-use of historic structures.
