A public-private partnership, the digital sign would be located on Hwy. 90. The University would share space with commercial businesses to tout educational, community and social programs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is UWF interested in placing a digital sign at the east entrance?

A digital sign is an effective way to promote the University. It will also secure additional income for the University through contracted signage managed by UWF Business Enterprises, Inc.

It will reach both eastbound and westbound traffic on Highway 90 at the east entrance to the University. There are an estimated 25,000 vehicles that travel this route each day. It will enhance UWF’s visibility and connect the campus to the community.

How will the digital sign be used?

The sign will be utilized in part for commercial advertising and messaging. Space will be sold to external advertisers though the signage company. One of the messages will be used solely to promote UWF top stories, programs, events and activities. The sign’s strategic location and large daily audience will allow UWF to promote itself to Pensacola area commuters at no cost to the University.

Who will own the sign?

The digital sign will be owned, operated and maintained by an outdoor digital billboard company. They are also responsible for all construction, maintenance and operational costs. UWF and BEI funds are not used to support the billboard.

What are the benefits of this agreement to the University?

The digital sign will increase visibility for UWF, as the University’s name and logo will be displayed prominently on the structure. UWF will also receive a percentage of the gross revenue generated by the advertisements featured on the sign, creating a continual revenue stream with no cost to the University.
