MAKING CONNECTIONS

it is important to us that the Building Creative Futures Workshop offers a forum for art teachers to make professional and personal connections. The workshops best practice seminars, its ceremonies, and events offer workshop attendees an array of opportunities to make these important connections.

Best Practices Seminars with Dr. Carol Edwards

Throughout each workshop day you will be exposed to a variety of new ideas and studio techniques, allowing you to build on your strengths. Every afternoon the BCF Workshop director, Dr. Carol Edwards will bring the group together to lead a wrap up/ reflection hour to brainstorm about the many ways you may apply this new knowledge to your classroom.

Ceremonies and Art Gallery Exhibition

  • The Opening Ceremony is a chance for the workshop participants to get acquainted with each other, and their surroundings. Dinner will be served.

  • The Closing Ceremony is a farewell lunch and Art Exhibition. The work you have done throughout the week will be displayed in the UWF Art Gallery.

The Residential Workshop Experience

Residing on campus through the duration of the workshop experience is an excellent opportunity to meld professional development and camaraderie between fellow art educators. It is therefore a critical component of the BCF Workshop experience. While staying on campus throughout the week, you will have the freedom to completely immerse yourself in the learning experience.

The Department of Art Open Studios

Ever wish you had the time to emmerse yourself in your artwork? At the BCF workshop you will not only learn best practices for your classroom, but also get the chance to develop your personal creativity.

The Department of Art Studios will be open or accessible late into the night for Open Studio time, where you can put into practice all of the new skills and ideas you learned about during your media group instruction.

In addition, there will be ample opportunity to connect, kick back and have fun with fellow art teachers at social events, trips to art galleries, and more.

DADA Gallery Night

You will have a chance to join the rest of the BCF Workshop participants in Downtown Pensacola to celebrate with the Downtown Arts District Association's (DADA) Gallery Night. You will enjoy an evening of shopping, dining, live entertainment and a profusion of great art from 5 to 9 pm. Held just five times a year, Gallery Night brings residents of Northwest Florida flocking to downtown Pensacola for a night on the town with the arts. Downtown Pensacola comes alive as galleries and businesses host everything from art exhibitions and live demonstrations to music events and other live cultural happenings.  The event is free, open to the public and appropriate for children and adults. ECAT Trolleys provides free transportation to DADA member galleries and sponsoring businesses. Maps and guides are available at all participation galleries and businesses.

The Downtown Walking Tour

The Historic Pensacola Village is a collection of 22 historical buildings and museums owned and operated by the University of West Florida. The organization is largely based upon the donation of T.T. Wentworth's large historical collection to the state of Florida, and the establishment of an organization dedicated to Historic Preservation that grew because of Mr. Wentworth's generosity. The Village is located in downtown Pensacola, Florida, situated between Plaza Ferdinand VII and Seville Square. Parking is available behind the T.T. Wentworth Museum.
