2005 AUBER Fall Conference
Our 59th annual AUBER fall conference
in Missoula, Montana, promises to be a memorable event offering
something for everyone. The conference kicks off Saturday,
October 8, with preliminary events including optional, hands-on
skills workshops (on topics such as economic impact modeling
and the latest publishing and web software) and the AUBER
Board of Directors meeting.
The regular program gets underway Sunday
morning and runs through mid-day Tuesday (October 11). The
program will feature plenary and concurrent sessions on a
wide range of subjects. A list of session topics has been
proposed to the planning committee, which is working on organizing
the sessions. Some sessions will be of broad interest to all
AUBER members, while others focus on interests of various
constituencies such as editors and web designers; information
systems staff, directors, and administrators; researchers
and analysts; small centers; and so on.
We’re planning presentations on
the latest statistical programs and data from federal agencies,
the macroeconomic outlook, the changing funding environment
for research bureaus, applied research conducted by AUBER
members, and a range of other topics. If you haven’t
already, you soon will receive an invitation to indicate your
interest in a number of conference topics via a web survey
that will help the planning committee firm up the program.
There’s still plenty of opportunity
to take part in the program, so if you’d like to be
a presenter or moderator, or if there’s someone you’d
like to recommend, please contact committee chair Jerry Conover
(conover@indiana.edu).
Paul Polzin has planned an outstanding
venue and activities for the conference. Fall in the northern
Rockies is hard to beat as a relaxing setting for a professional
conference, and a special field trip will give you a real
taste of the local culture and environment. For more information
about the fall conference, visit the AUBER web site at www.auber.org.
