A sport that is enjoyed by millions of Afghan children is kite-running, which involves competing teams that build and “fight” kites for large audiences. Once banned under the Taliban, kite running is once again enjoyed by children and adults alike.[9]

 

Kurash fightersAmong Afghans, soccer, wrestling, boxing and cricket are also popular as are table tennis, badminton, and volleyball. The Uzbeks are well known for their unique style of martial arts, called kurash, as shown to the left, and their skill in boxing.
