Construction in Pakistan is a major revenue generator for the economy. Construction of housing, infrastructure (e.g. roads and water pipes), and businesses has increased due to an increased flow of capital from overseas family members ($8 billion in 2008) and a return of capital investing following 9/11 [26]. In rural areas, American interests and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) continue to play a major role in the building of schools, hospitals, and other major projects [27].
