In this lesson you will learn about the religious influences in Pakistan. Though Islam is the official national religion, there still exists great diversity including Hinduism, Christianity, Sikhism, and Animism. The majority of Pakistanis are Muslim, with 76% of the Muslim population Sunni and 20% Shi’a. Pakistanis take their religion very seriously and it impacts every part of their lives. You will learn about the majority and minority religions and denominations and how they are expressed. Additionally, you will learn how core beliefs, rites, and rituals influence the daily activities of people. Religious freedom, tolerance, and inter-faith relationships will also be discussed. At the end of this lesson you should be able to complete the following learning objectives.
