Defining Videoconferencing Instruction
A videoconference is a set of interactive telecommunication technologies which allow two or more locations to interact simultaneously via two-way video and audio transmissions. Normally, video and sound signals are sent from the origination site through a computer (Codec) that compresses the signals and then sends them through a telecommunications line to another computer (Codec) at the destination site that decompresses the signals and synchronously displays them through video monitors and speakers.
Tandberg Classrooms and Conference Rooms. Several locations for teaching are available using the newly installed Tandberg videoconferencing classrooms and conference rooms. The purpose of these rooms is to increase the ability to reach a few students at multiple locations to increase access for students and to reduce travel between campuses for faculty. This model of teaching is somewhat unique and requires instructors to be mindful of students at multiple locations and how much student engagement is afforded to the students where ever they may be. Instructors teaching in these rooms must consider how to send and receive information to these students, collect assignments and conduct examinations. It is strongly recommended that D2L supplement the Tandberg Classroom experience for the purposes of classroom management and ongoing student engagement. Tandberg classrooms are located or planned to be located in the following places. Those with *will be operational Fall 2008, others will come on board throughout the academic year.
