Throughout the implementation semester of your online course, ATC recommends that you take advantage of opportunities to:
Near the end of the semester, online students will receive an e-mail notifying them that the course Instruction Assessment (Distance Learning) is available. This assessment is located in the Personal Student Records Access channel on the My Info tab. This assessment is totally confidential and used by the University to help ensure the quality of instruction we offer our students. Encourage your students to take a few minutes to answer this survey and help UWF meet its promise of excellence. Visit the Best Practices page to watch a short video and find out how Dr. Richie Platt increased responses to student evaluations in his online courses.
You may also ask your students to participate in one or two formative evaluations of the course design and materials. These evaluations are designed to help improve the quality of the course content and do not address how the course was taught. Again, participation in these evaluations will help UWF offer high quality courses. If you are interested in having your fully online course evaluated, ATC can assist you with this process. Contact Kassy Tyler for more information at ktyler@uwf.edu .
To elicit student feedback and facilitate formative evaluation of your online course, the UWF Academic Technology Center (ATC) recommends placing the following paragraph and link to mid-course and end of course surveys into the “News” component of your eLearning course. Once your students have responded to the anonymous survey (approx. 2 weeks), ATC will provide you the results of the survey. Please place the following information in your eLearning course as soon as practical and provide any incentive you deem necessary to facilitate completion of this survey.
Mid-Course Survey
The following web link will take you to a brief and anonymous survey about your perception of the interaction taking place in this online course. The information gained from this survey is utilized to improve the quality and effectiveness of your online course. Please take a few moments to complete this brief and anonymous survey: Include Link to Survey.
You can also create your own surveys using the Survey tool available in D2L. If you do not see the Survey link in the navigation bar of your course in D2L, the tool has not been activated. To activate the Survey tool, follow these steps:
Use the tool to collect formative evaluation data as you teach your course throughout the semester and use that information to make changes and enhancements to the course as needed. The Survey tool allows you to collect anonymous responses. Step-by-step instructions for creating your own surveys in D2L are available here (pdf).
