Faculty Highlights: Dr. Laura White

The Academic Technology Center is proud to congratulate Dr. White for achieving internal Quality Matters certification of her fully-online course, CGS2060 - Excursions in Computing. Her course was reviewed and recognized by an internal QM faculty peer review team as aligning to national standards of best practice in online course design.

Laura was born in Los Angeles, California. She served in the U.S. Navy in from 1972 to 1992 as a Photographer's Mate, Tradevman, and Surface Warfare Officer.  While on active duty, she completed a B.S. in Computer Engineering at the University of New Mexico, and a M.S. in Computer Science at the Naval Postgraduate school.  Laura's last tour of duty was as Chief Engineer on a Destroyer Tender that deployed to Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm. After retiring from the Navy, Laura started teaching at UWF in 1993 and has taught 43 different courses--many multiple times--primarily related to programming and software engineering. Laura started teaching online courses at UWF in 2006, and also completed a Ph.D. from Capella University in 2006. Laura served as the Program Director for Software Engineering in the Department of Computer Science from 2007 through 2011 and her research interests include global software engineering teams, mobile programming, and software maintenance.
