Congratulations to Dr. Besty Botts and Dr. Bill Evans! The Academic Technology Center is proud to announce that Dr. Botts and Dr. Evans have been awarded the UWF Quality Online Course Seal of Excellence for their joint effort in the development of the fully online course - EEX 4221C - Evaluation and Prescriptive Instruction for the Exceptional Child.
Reviewed by a team of UWF faculty peer reviewers trained in applying the Quality Matters rubric standards, this course is designated as being aligned to national standards of best practice in online course design. Review team members take the students' perspective with regard to clarity and organization of an online course, providing feedback on course design by awarding points for specific review standards. QM Review Standards reflect national standards of best practice and research literature.
Dr. Botts has been involved in the field of special education since 1973. She taught in multiple classroom settings with children with various disabilities before beginning to teach online at UWF in 2006.
Dr. Botts is a frequent speaker to parent groups where she empowers parents to navigate the maze of available programs by providing them with tools to examine the research base of products and programs. Programs for parents and professionals are conducted yearly in the Patagonia Region of Argentina and in Ghana, West Africa.
Research interests include Autism Spectrum Disorder as it affects families, the function and expression of stereotypic behaviors, sensory issues, and a variety of parental issues.
