Welcome to ArgoJournals

Welcome to our new site! ArgoJournals is a collection of electronic journals written by undergraduates and published by various departments at the University of West Florida. ArgoJournals provides incentive to undergraduates to design, implement, and showcase their research and an opportunity to bring quality work to completion through publication.

ArgoJournals is a collection of journals; each participating department publishes its own journal and is responsible for its own content. Currently, the Journal associated with the Psychology Department, Undergraduate Research in Psychology and Behavioral Science, is the first Journal to accept manuscripts for review. If you have written a paper or research manuscript related to psychology or behavioral science, please follow the link to the right to find out more about submitting your paper. Empirical studies are strongly encouraged, but other work, such as theoretical papers, would be considered as well.

A Message to Undergraduates

Why Submitting is Worthwhile:

If you’re an undergraduate student first visiting our site, you might wonder why you should take the time to polish your work for publication. Submitting is indeed worth the time and effort.

Competitive graduate programs highly value research experience.
For many competitive graduate programs, research experience is as, if not more important, than GPA and test scores. When your work is peer-reviewed and published it means it was held to a high standard for quality. Being published quickly tells the admission committee not only that you have research initiative, but that you have the necessary skills to complete a research project and ability to clearly communicate your ideas to others. These are strong indicators of your future success in graduate school and professional life.

Experience now increases your chance of successful publication in other academic journals later.
Research and communication skills are developed over time. The sooner you allow others to critique your work, the sooner you get feedback about your content and style. Everyone benefits from the review process: we can help you improve your writing and research skills. Authors published at ArgoJournals retain the copyright to their work and are free to submit their papers to other academic journals.

The purpose of writing and research is to share it with others.
Sharing your work is the right thing to do. You may have conducted your research or written your paper simply because it was a class requirement, but the real purpose of writing is to express ourselves to others. Open exchange of information leads to new ideas, new research, and increased learning. Your work may even be cited by future researchers.
