Katherine Brewer graduated with her B.S. in Anthropology and History from Portland State University in Portland, Oregon, in 2010. She enjoys lab work as well as field work, and has been working in the UWF lab for the past three years in addition to a further semester of volunteering there before that. She also has completed two field schools at an 18th-century Spanish mission site. Her current research is focused on issues of identity, specifically gender and social status, in the 17th-century missions of Spanish Florida using the cemeteries found therein. A side project of hers in conjunction with Dr. John Worth is the paleography of 18th-century Franciscan chapter meetings written mostly in Latin with some Spanish.
